WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State men's soccer team picked up a 5-0 shutout win over Elms College Wednesday evening at a rainy Coughlin Field.

With the win, Worcester State jumps to 5-8-0 on the season. The Blazers drop to 2-9-3.

Worcester State got on the board in just the second minute, as Ethan Melia (Shrewsbury, Mass.) put home his second goal of the season. Freshman Hamza Shakir (Worcester, Mass.) fed a ball into the middle from the left wing that deflected off Alfred Koroma (Millbury, Mass.) to Melia's foot, who buried a shot from in close to put his team ahead 1-0.

Junior Lincoln Henry (Kingston, Jamaica) doubled Worcester State's lead in the 22nd minute. The junior walked the ball through the left side of the Blazer defense and put a shot between the keeper's legs for a 2-0 lead.

Worcester State extended its lead to three in the 30th minute as Henry netted his second goal of the game. A long Lancer throw-in pinballed off the heads of Melia and Koroma before Henry nodded it into the open cage for a 3-0 lead.

Melia scored his second goal of the game in the 51st minute as he put home his own rebound. Senior Justin Echeverry (Methuen, Mass.) scored an insurance marker in the 65th minute to extend Worcester State's lead to 5-0, which would hold up as the final score.

Worcester State senior goalkeeper Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.) recorded the shutout victory with six saves.

Worcester State will return to the pitch on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. home game against Fitchburg State. The Blazers will be in action the same day, hosting Mitchell College at 2 p.m.
