KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Worcester State University softball team suffered a pair of defeats Monday in its second day at The Spring Games at the Osceola County Softball Complex. Worcester State opened the day with a 12-0 loss in five innings to Nebraska Wesleyan University, before falling 11-5 to Susquehanna.

With the pair of losses, the Lancers drop to 0-4 on the young season.

GAME 1 - Nebraska Wesleyan 12, Worcester State 0 (5 innings)

Worcester State had no answers for the Priairie Wolves offense as the Lancers dropped its opener of the afternoon.

The Lancers mustered hits from Kristen Huston (Spencer, Mass.), Katie Polselli (Charlton, Mass.), and Sam Maglione (Lancaster, Mass.), but were unable to get any rhythm going on offense in the abbreviated contest. Nebraska Wesleyan scored five runs in each the second and third innings to break the contest wide open en route to the win.

Strong relief pitching from junior Carly Zielinski (Monson, Mass.) in the fourth inning kept the Prairie Wolves off the board and the basepaths in the bottom of the fourth, but the Lancers were unable to extend the game in the top of the fifth.

GAME 2 - Susquehanna 11, Worcester State 5

Worcester State's offense came to life in the second contest of the day, but Susquehanna was able to outslug the Lancers to pick up the victory.

After Susquehanna jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, Worcester State junior Kaiulani Ennis (Swansea, Mass.) made things interesting with a two-run double in the bottom of the third inning, scoring Huston and Monica Ferrazzani (North Reading, Mass.).

Susquehanna would take over the offensive momentum from there however, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth and three in each the sixth and seventh innings.

In the bottom of the seventh, Worcester State would mount a rally, starting with Ferrazzani crossing home plate on a bases loaded wild pitch. Moments later, Samantha Stake (Worcester, Mass.) drove in Huston to cut the deficit to 11-4. Ennis provided what would be the final run of the game on a sacrice fly in the next at bat, as the rally fell short in the loss.

Senior Rachel Frisch (Worcester, Mass.) was credited with the loss, throwing a complete game with four strikeouts in the night cap. 

Worcester State will be back in action in Florida on Tuesday, playing Stockton and Becker at Hancock Park in Clermont.
