FITCHBURG, Mass. - The Worcester State University softball team split a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with Fitchburg State University Wednesday afternoon at Coolidge Park. Worcester State won game one 3-1 before dropping game two 11-3 in six innings.

With the split, the Lancers are now 4-22 on the season and 3-3 in the conference.

Game 1 - Worcester State 3, Fitchburg State 1

Senior pitcher Rachel Frisch (Worcester, Mass.) spun a gem in game one to lift Worcester State to a low-scoring victory.

Worcester State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as sophomore Liv Larson (Marlborough, Mass.) drew a bases loaded walk to bring in junior Samantha Stake (Worcester, Mass.) before the Lancers doubled their margin (2-0) in the top of the fourth when senior Monica Ferrazzani (North Reading, Mass.) singled to right as sophomore Sam Maglione (Lancaster, Mass.) crossed the plate.

Worcester State upped its lead to 3-0 in the fifth when senior Katie Polselli (Charlton, Mass.) connected on an RBI triple to right field that scored junior Kaiulani Ennis (Swansea, Mass.).

Fitchburg State would answer back in the bottom of the seventh as senior Maddie Medina (Pelham, N.H.) lacing an RBI double to center field to score freshman Lundyn Forcier (Woonsocket, R.I.), resulting in the 3-1 final.

Frisch took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before an infield single with one away from Forcier. Frisch got the win, allowing no earned runs and just two hits in 6+ innings pitched. Freshman Molly Glynn (Abington, Mass.) came into the game in relief in the bottom of the seventh with two on and nobody out, but forced a huge rally-killing double play en route to her first collegiate save.

Game 2 - Fitchburg State 11, Worcester State 3

The Lancers knotted the score at 2-2 in the top of the third on a Polselli RBI double to center, but the Falcons struck for three runs in the bottom half of the third as senior Hayley McCarthy (Lawrence, Mass.), senior Michaela Keenan (Boston, Mass.) and DiPhilippo notched RBIss for the 5-2 advantage.

The Green and Gold secured the split in the bottom of the fifth when Medina crossed the plate on fielding miscue, while junior Mikayla Harnois (Attleboro, Mass.) and newcomer Audrey Johnson (Fitchburg, Mass.) added RBI's in the stanza, resulting in the 11-3 game two final.
