Women's Tennis Dispatched By Rhode Island College, 6-1

Providence, RI --- Rhode Island College senior Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, CT), junior Sadie Campenella (Chepachet, RI) and freshman Kim Daigle (Sterling, MA) all posted wins at singles and doubles as they led the Anchorwomen to a 6-1 victory over Worcester State this afternoon in Little East Conference women's tennis action at the RIC Tennis Courts.

In a make-up date that had been rained out last Saturday, today's contest was shortened due to darkness as fourth and sixth singles went unfinished.

To start things up for Rhode Island College (10-0, 5-0 LEC) Daigle and Brown defeated junior Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) and sophomore Shelby Jankins (W. Brookfield, MA), 8-2, as the top seed before Campanella and sophomore Julie Reddy teamed up for the 8-1 triumph at second doubles.

The Lancers (6-4, 2-4 LEC) picked up what ended up being their only point of the contest with a win at third doubles. Senior Danielle Candelieri (Chelmsford, MA) and freshman Alexis Silk (Greenfield, MA) forced a tie-breaker to defeat sophomore Noelle Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) and freshman Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ), 9-8 (7-1).

Campanella, Daigle, Brown and sophomore Noelle Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) all earned straight-set victories in their respective matchups. Freshman Natalie Paul (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) was up 7-5 and 5-1 before her match was completed at fourth singles and Silk was behind 6-4 and 2-1 in the sixth slot.

The Lancers return to on next Thursday where they will play Gordon on the road in a 4 PM matchup. Rhode Island College heads to Plymouth State for a key LEC game on Saturday at 1 PM.
