WESTFIELD, Mass. - Worcester State University women's indoor track & field freshman Avonia Herbert (Sharon, Mass.) has been named the Track Athlete and Rookie of the Week by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Herbert was dominant in her first MASCAC Championships over the weekend, earning 38 points for the Lancers and taking home three medals. Herbert was the individual champion in the triple jump and 200 meter dash, and was the final leg of the MASCAC Champion 4x200 meter relay team. Herbert also placed second on the 60 meter hurdles for the Lancers.
Herbert and a selection of Lancers will be back on the track in two weeks for the New England Regionals. The men's meet takes place at Springfield College, while the women head to Middlebury College.
