Lancer's Men's Outdoor Track and Field Finish Second at Regis Spring Classic

Worcester, MA- After an unexpected snow shower put a pause on the Regis Spring Classic last Friday, the Lancers were back in action on Monday and certainly making a name for themselves in the special eclipse edition meet. Numerous top finishes would see Worcester sitting at the top of the pack in a competitive afternoon meet.

 

Initial success was found on the track as junior Brodie Jacques (Rehoboth, MA) would grab first in the 100m with a time of 11.09s followed tight on the heels by sophomore Seth Boudreau (Douglas, MA) who flew across in the time of 11.16. Joining them across the finish line was first years Pius Baidoo (Worcester, MA) in 11th with a 12.07, Nolan Clarke (Mansfield, MA) one tenth of a second behind in 13th and Kevin O'Brien in 15th with a 12.48. The 200m would have solid speed as well with O'Brien crossing in 24.87 followed by sophomore Alan Gomez (Clinton, MA) in 10th at 25.22, first year Jax Christman (Lancaster, MA) in 12th with 25.54 with junior Nicholas Violette (Webster, MA) crossing in 13th with 25.61. Rounding out the event was first year Makarios Kitenda (Lowell, MA) in 15th at 26.17 and senior Anthony Paolucci (Billerica, MA) in 17th with a time of 27.62.

 

Hitting the middle distance would see Gomez back on the track in the 400m, crossing in seventh for a time of 57.07 followed closely by junior Brian O'Leary in ninth with a 58.36. Worcester would then jump right into the long haul as senior Matt Talbot (Belchertown, MA) would lead the way in the 1,500m with a second place finish in a time of 4:37.44, followed by first year Jacksen Bolduc (Auburn, MA) in third in a time of 4:40.53. Sophomores Alex Matsuyasu (Newton, MA) and Andrew Stokes (Wilmington, MA) would grab 5th and 7th with times of 4:50.93 and 5:08.00.

 

Matsuyasu and Talbot would again go for distance, putting their cross country skills to good use in the 5,000m as Talbot grabbed second in a time of 17:40.97 with Matsuyasu 28 second behind in third with a time of 18:08.98.

 

In group endeavors running Baidoo, Christman, Clarke and Violette would join up for the 4x100 relay to claim first in a time of 44.40.

 

Worcester State saw plenty of action in the jumping pit today as Jacques would claim second in the long jump with a distance of 6.23m followed, as has become normal, by Boudreau in third at a distance measuring 6.06m. Violette and Casiano would land at 7th and 8th with 5.39m and 5.33m leaps while Clarke was the final lander, in 12th, with a mark of 4.77m. The triple jump would see continued success as Baidoo and Christman would go 4 and 5 respectively, with Paidoo recording a 11.89m alongside Christman's 11m.

 

The throwing circle was just as successful for Worcester as junior Max O'Connor (Dedham, MA) would mark a 11.24m for fourth just behind first year Garrett Papierski (Webster, MA) who claimed first with a distance of 12.24m in the shot put. Rounding out the quartet was junior James Bourke (North Kingstown, MA) in 12th at 9.88m and first year Daniel Butler (Tyngsboro, MA) in 14th with a 9.44m mark. 

 

The Lancers would see a clean sweep of the top three spots in the Discuss at Regis to clear out the day as senior Jack Houlihan (Rutland, MA) claimed first in a 41.28m toss, ahead of O'Connor with a 37.39m and sophomore Harley Phillipe (Lowell, MA) with 36.18m. Papierski would come in sixth with a 32.61m while Butler and Bourke would round out the discuss with ninth and 20th with 30.08m and 20.95m.

 

Houlihan would not just grab first once though on the day, but instead would hit the over 40m mark twice, with his second in the Hammer as he recorded a 41.90m. Fellow senior Matthew Long (East Bridgewater, MA) would land in third with a 36.44m and finish he would top in the javelin, where he would land in second with a 45.68m measurement.First year Zachary Stewart would join Long in the javelin, finishing in 15th with an 11.48m. Butler would fall just behind Long in the Hammer with a fourth place finish at 34.92m as Papierski and O'Connor round out the pit throwing squad success on the day with a sixth, 33.02m, and eighth place, 30.68m, finish.

 

Worcester would end the day with 146 points and a second place finish at the Regis Classic. The squad will be back in action next Friday in Connecticut when they head to the Silfen Invitational.
