Updated Moved to January 9th at Noon-Worcester State Women's Basketball to Host 14th Annual Math Madness Game

WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester State University Women's Basketball will host its 14th Annual Math Madness game next Monday, January 8 as the Lancers host the Trinity College Bantams in non-conference action at John P. Brissette Court. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.

Over Six hundred students, ranging from kindergarten through eighth grade from the local May St., Chandler and Tatnuck Magnet schools, are expected to be in attendance for the game.

"We look forward to this game every year" expresses captains Katie Hurynowicz and Abby St. Martin. "It is an exciting environment; the students are engaged and energetic- they motivate us to play hard!"

The annual event brings local school children onto Worcester State's campus for a unique opportunity to not only watch, but interact, during a live college basketball game. Each student is given a packet of basketball-centered math problems to complete over the course of the game, with questions on scores, court dimensions, player statistics, and more.

At the game's conclusion, attendees will get a chance to meet the players from both teams, as both the Lancers and the Bantams will be signing autographs and posing for photos.

"It is a great opportunity for local kids to visit a college campus, get excited about math all while cheering on both teams" states Coach Tessmer. "It is a win-win for everyone and one of our favorite games of the season."

If the event of a school cancellation due to weather for Worcester Public Schools or Worcester State University on January 8th, the rescheduled date will be the following day, Tuesday, January 9th at noon.
