Hurynowicz and Waldron Named MASCAC Players of the Week

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Basketball team swept the MASCAC weekly awards this week, grabbing both the Player and Rookie of the Week honors. Senior Katie Hurynowicz (Tyngsboro, MA) was tabbed with her first player of the week honor of the year, while first year Lena Waldron (Quincy, MA) grabbed her 6th MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors.

Hurynowicz, while only in action for a single game this week, recorded her seventh double-double of the year when she sent in 32 points and 16 rebounds in the Lancers 78-74 victory over Salem State. She also recorded three assists, a steal and a block while shooting 60% from the field, going 9-15, and 81% from the free throw line, making 13-16. Hurynowicz has recorded 293 points on the season, with 149 rebounds, 41 assists and 37 steals.

Waldron was a two de force in both games on the week for Worcester State, recording her own double-double in the Lancers match versus Framingham State. She averaged 10.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and four assists in a 1-1 week for the Lancers. Finished with seven points, five rebounds and five assists in the 78-74 win over Salem State. Added 14 points and 12 rebounds along with three assists and a steal in the setback to Framingham State. On the season Waldron has 162 points, 117 rebounds with 26 assists and 21 steals.

Worcester State returns to action on Wednesday when they host MCLA at 5:30pm on Brissette Court.
