Senior Night Success as Lancers Grab Top Spot with Win over Amcats

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancers (9-13-1, 7-2-1 MASCAC) faced off against the Anna Maria AMCATS (8-11-4, 5-3-2 MASCAC) for the teams Senior Night. The night honored seniors Layna Pereiro (Chicago, IL), Ellen Cook (Beckett, MA), Amy MacGlashing (Marlborough, MA), Sydney Vautour (Hamilton, MA) and Anya Laxton (Holbrook, NY) for their impressive contribution to the program.

FINAL: LANCERS 2 | AMCATS 0

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In a scoreless first period, the Lancers were able to fire off eighteen shots compared to the AMCATS three. Graduate Senior and captain Katie Puumala (Framingham, MA) along with sophomore forward Jennarae Bateman (Wymoing, Minn.) each were tied with three shots apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Czerniawski (Chicopee, MA) saved all three shots she faced. Junior Kiersten Erickson (Broomfield, CO) received a penalty and was sent off for hooking eight minutes into the period but the Lancer defense was not fazed by the disadvantage. The Lancers successfully killed off the Anna Maria power play and kept it scoreless, taking a 0-0 tie into the first intermission..

The Lancers found the back of the net strike twice in the second period. Worcester with a woman advantage on a checking call on AMCATS Ceili Nolan saw a goal from senior forward Amy MacGlashing (Marlborough, MA) assisted from senior forward Sydney Vautour (Hamilton, MA) 3:46 into the second period. Macglashing gilded her way down the left dot, had an open shot in front of the goalie, but patiently decided to skate behind the goalkeeper, tucking one past her skate for a 1-0 lead.

MacGlashing scored again, this time on a power play goal. First year Madelyn Franta (Superior, WI) set up a great one time shot that was incredibly saved by the Anna Maria goalie sliding right to left. The puck was not secured though and fell out of her glove with a Lancer waiting at the helm. Chaos ensued with Worcester State dashing for the puck and MacGlashing being the quick stick that snuck one in to give her team the 2-0 advantage.

The third period saw no scoring for either side and just a single apiece in the final period. Worcester out shot the AMCATS by a total of 13-6 in the period. For the game, the Lancers finished with 51 shots compared to Anna Maria's 21.
