Lancers Close Out Regular Season with Victory over Falcons

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Lacrosse team (8-8, 3-2) looked to close out the season today over .500 as they journey to Fitchburg State to take on the Falcons (7-9, 1-4) in their conference finale. The Lancers were primed for action as they looked to get some last touches and shots in before the playoffs start next Tuesday.

Final:

Worcester State: 18

Fitchburg State: 7

How it happened:

Worcester State would start their game against Fitchburg strong, scoring a goal just 50 seconds in from the stick of sophomore Mckayla Fisher (Peabody, MA)  and kept the scoring coming. A little more than a minute later, graduate student Shea Jarvis (Auburn, MA) would score her 40th goal of the season followed up with her 41st with less than 8 minutes left in the quarter. With less than 5 minutes remaining, Fisher would score her second of the game. Less than a minute later, sophomore Abigail Vincent (Lakeville, MA)  would record her first goal of the game, assisted by junior Ashley Hurley (Feeding Hill, MA). Seconds later, Vincent would again score and soon thereafter, sophomore Molly Witkowski (Greenville, NY) recorded her 37th goal of the season. With 44 seconds left to the quarter, sophomore Shannon Donahue (Dennis, MA) would record goal number eight for Worcester. Just before the quarter buzzer sounded, Fitchburg State finally managed to get a goal on the board, bringing the score to 8-1 for Worcester State.

The second quarter action would see the Lancers not slowing down as junior Hannah Erickson (Dunstable, MA) would send in goal number nine for Worcester, but the Falcons found some offensive juice of their own, grabbing their second goal seconds later. That juice could not contain the blue and gold though, as Jarvis would record her third of the day off a pass from Witkowski and would be followed by goals from Hurley and first year Madigan Kelley (Bourne, MA) to grab a 12-2 lead. The Falcons would respond with another goal of their own with just over two and half remaining and Worcester would grab one final goal before the half, this time from junior Abigail Wing (Griswold, CT) to carry a 13-3 lead into the half.

Fitchburg State would get a goal at the start of the third but Lancer' first year Kerry Brown (Billerica, MA) scored her first goal of the game with 10 minutes left to go. The Falcons attempted to make a comeback after scoring two goals in the last minute of the third, changing the score line to 14-6 for the Lancers.

Wing scored her second goal of the game only seconds after the start of the final quarter followed closely by another from Kelley before Wing would toss in two more, with one assisted by Vincent to take Worcester to an 18-6 lead. With just 33 seconds remaining in the game the Falcons would record goal number seven to close the game out with an 18-7 score line.
