Condike Leads Lancers at Bonnie Edmondson

Worcester, MA- In the final meet and last chance to qualify, the Worcester State Outdoor Track and Field team headed down to Eastern Connecticut for the Bonnie Edmondson Classic. The Women were primed for success and held strong against some stiff competition on the day as they grabbed a number of top finishes in the afternoon. 

 

First two wrap for the women were the track events led by Carly Gilson (Grafton, MA) who came in with a blistering personal best time of 61.88 in the 400m to grab first place in the event. First year Lexie Zakrzewski (Tauton, MA) would join Gilson in the lap, crossing in a time that surpass her previous mark set this past December with a 67.70 for sixth. The spring side would have additional success for Gilson in the 200m, again topping her time set in December as well in indoor, with a 27.73 for 5th place. Joining Gilson the the half lap was first years Meg Driscoll (Mansfield, MA), 28.56 for 9th, Mia Guinto (West Boylston, MA), 31.16 for 19th, and Zakrzewski in 14th with 28.89. Guinto and Driscoll would also hit the track in the 100m as Driscoll would claim 6th with a time of 13.48, just ahead of Guinto in 10th at 14.90. Edging out both sprinters would be fellow first year Alexis Strong (Southington, CT), who would snag 5th with a time 13.10 seconds. ROunding out the quartet of first years was Zoe Callahan (Arlington, MA) who claimed 13th with a time of 17.34.

 

In the middle distance, the Sophomores would shine as Bridget O'Malley (Leominster, MA) would cross in fourth in 2:36.09, just seconds ahead of Leah Berg (Worcester, MA) in fifth with a time of 2:38.69. Emily Colantuoni (Haverhill, MA) would finish in 14th with 3:05.07 for the two laps while Claudia Symonick (Auburn, MA) would also grab 14th, but this time in the 1,500m, crossing in a time of 6:15.91.

 

The Lancers would not slow down in the jumping sector either as their youth continued to shine with first year Lauren Condike (East Longmeadow, MA) landing in 2nd in the high jump with a mark of 1.52m. Senior Eryca Lopes would claim a fourth place finish of her own in the long jump, landing at 4.60m. Lopes would then follow up her fourth place with a third in the triple jump on a 9.45m as Condike would claim 5th on an 8.72m leap.

 

The throwing circle would see plenty of action for the Blue and Gold as senior Sthanisha Moreau (Taunton, MA) would land in third with her throw of 9.42m, just ahead and a number flip away of sophomore Ava Piccolo (Tewksbury, MA) who claimed fourth with a 9.24m toss. First year Luana Grau-Moura (Marlborough, MA) rounded out the shot for Worcester with a ninth place landing at 8.31m. Junior Arianna Constant (Leominster, MA) would make her mark in the Hammer Throw, claiming seventh on a 28.60m landing, leading off the group of five with Piccolo placing just behind in eighth with a 28.27 and Moreau in ninth with a 24.90m landing. Grau-Moura would claim 11th on a 23.68m mark while first year Gianna Noyes (Uxbridge, MA) would take home 12th with a 17.75. Constant would again make her presence felt, claiming 5th in the Javelin on a distance of 28.55m.

 

Piccolo would grab the top spot in the discus to end the night on  an impressive 27.47m throw as Moreau would nab 5th on a 24.50m just ahead of Noyes at 24m. Rounding out the group was Moira in 10th with a 21.96m on the day.

 

With the final qualifying marks in, the Lancers now turn their focus to the MASCAC Championships that are next Friday, April 26th, at Westfield State.
