Straughn Recieves ECAC Defensive Player of the Week, D3football.com Nod

Cape Cod, MA --- Senior Adam Straughn (Rockland, MA) has been recognized as the Corvais ECAC Northeast Division III Defensive Player of the Week and one of four linebackers on the D3football.com Team of the Week for his standout efforts in a 15-14 win against WPI.

Straughn, who was also named MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week, collected a game-best 12 tackles (10 solo) to go with one fumble recovery as he blocked an extra point on the Engineers lone score of the second half.

Among those who have at least two games played in the conference, Straughn is second in the MASCAC in total tackles (13) and average (8.5) while the Lancers rank second in the league in points allowed per game (10.0 PPG) and total yardage yielded (224.5 YPG).

Last season as a junior, Straughn was third on the team with 57 tackles (39 solo) in 10 games at outside linebacker while he finished with six tackles for a loss, two interceptions, one sack and one fumble recovery. He also had four blocked kicks to pace the squad on special teams.

Straughn is the first ECAC Player of the Week for the Lancers in nearly three seasons as Graham Asum was recognized for picking off four passes in a win against Westfield State on September 29, 2010.

In 2012, four football players were honored on the D3football.com Team of the Week - junior Casey Hippert (October 3), junior Matthew Begley (October 9), third-year Bryan Narcisse (October 30) and Asum as a return specialist (November 5).

In upcoming action, the Blue and Gold head to Bridgewater State for their first MASCAC game of the season to face off against the Bears on Friday at 7 PM.
