Asum Named NEFC, ECAC Division III North Defensive Player of the Week

Boston, MA --- Sophomore cornerback Graham Asum has been selected New England Football Conference (NEFC) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III North Defensive Player of the Week for helping lead the Lancers to a 30-18 victory over Westfield State as WSU opened Bogan Division play with a win.

Asum, who hails from Marlboro, MA, snatched four interceptions for 113 yards as he returned one back for a 52-yard score in their triumph over the Owls. Asum would end the game with four tackles (three solo) as his return yardage was just six yards away from the school mark set by Tim Baines against Westfield State in 1987.

Asum is currently tied with teammate Cameron Jones (Stow, MA) for the NEFC lead in interceptions with four while he is also tied for 11th with five passes defended. Asum's 22 tackles (16 solo) are 11th best among the leagues defensive backs.

The Lancers under 28th year head coach Brien Cullen are 3-1 for the first time since 2004. Worcester State will journey up to Castine, ME to face off against defending NEFC champion Maine Maritime at 1 PM on Saturday.
