Lancers Secure Hosting Duties with Victory over Buccaneers

Worcester, MA- On Friday night the Women's Soccer team traveled to Mass Maritime for a chilly final conference game of the season.

The Lancers dominated the game from the beginning. In just the sixth minute, first year Addison Enos (Middleboro, MA) took a beautiful curving free kick that senior Cammi Arnold (Marlborough, MA) was able to put a head on to get into the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead. The Lancers passed around the Buccaneers and kept possession in their defensive third repeatedly in the half. Worcester State sophomore Raelyn Callahan (Pepperell, MA) scored another goal, shooting from almost the goal line into the bottom corner of the net, assisted by a beautiful pass from senior Haley Mignon (Tewksbury, MA). Less than a minute later Callahan slipped a ball past Maritime's last defender to senior Haley Samara (Worcester, MA) who sent the ball into the opposite corner of the net for another goal for the Lancers.

The Buccaneers did not give up in the second half and kept Worcester on their toes. In the 63rd minute Mass Maritime capitalized off of a corner that found its way to the top of the box from Julia Podchaiski (Wallingford, CT) to Abigail Lelievre (Littleton, MA) who scored the lone goal for the Buccaneers. Worcester held their own the rest of the game and in the last minute sophomore Michaela O'Brien (Bedford, MA) scored unassisted to finish the game off with a 4-1 lead for the Lancers.

This game concludes the regular season for the Lancers who look to find themselves as the four seed in the tournament. They will host their first playoff game on Tuesday, November 1st at John Coughlin field. The game is currently tentatively scheduled for 7pm with an opponent yet to be set as the conference awaits the conclusion of play tomorrow.
