Lancers Drop One to Bears

Worcester, Mass. – Worcester State passed for 171 yards and rushed for 70 in the loss this afternoon at Bridgewater College. Quarterbacks senior Aaron-Moses Williams (Springfield, MA), six completions for 83 yards, junior Mike Loveless (Nashua, NH), three completions for 36 yards, sophomore Adam Hill (Luneburg, MA), two for 31 yards and first year Cam Ayotte (Millbury, MA), two for 21 yards, combined to lead the Lancers offense for a combined 241 yards of total offense in the game.

The four Worcester quarterbacks combined to complete 13 of 28 pass attempts for 171 yards with an interception. Junior wide receiver Deion Osei-Sarpong (Holden, Mass.) grabbed four receptions for 38 yards.

The Bears improve to 3-3 on the season and 3-1 in the MASCAC with their third straight win and second consecutive shutout, while the Lancers fall to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Senior Amir Mells (Boston, MA) led the rushing game with 11 carries for 28 yards, just ahead of Williams who took the ball himself seven time for 27 yards. Defensively the Lancers saw some stand out action from sophomores Jonah Familia (Worcester, MA), Tyler Chaves (Hudson, MA) and Layne Benton (Onset, MA), who each recorded an unassisted sack on the Bears quarterback.

Senior safety Noah Peterson (Millbury, Mass.) notched 11 tackles (eight solo) and a pair of pass breakups to lead the Worcester defense, while sophomore linebacker Familia recorded nine tackles (eight solo) with a sack, two tackles for loss and a pass breakup.

Senior Kyle Wall (Sterling, MA) was again a pivotal force on special teams with three punts for 126 yards with his longest for 43 yards to provide the Lancers solid field position throughout the afternoon.

The Lancers (1-4, 1-2) host Massachusetts Maritime Academy next Saturday afternoon at 2:30 as they return home to Coughlin Field.
