Lancers Close Out Regular Season with Tough Battle versus the Rams

Worcester, MA- In the final regular season game of the Lancers season, Worcester State took a trip to Framingham State to face off against the Rams in their final MASCAC matchup of the year. The fourth seed was on the line for the Lancers as a win would have sealed their seeding and a home matchup versus Salem on Tuesday.

This game was back and forth at the beginning as both teams were trading baskets early in the first quarter with both defenses playing it sharp and moving their feet to keep the pressure high as Worcester State led 14-12 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter it remained a tight battle with Framingham State just edging ahed to lead 28-26 at the end of the half.  Senior Erin Gallella (Tewksbury, MA) led Worcester State in scoring at the half with 10 points on 4-9 shooting from the field.

Framingham State would open up the second half with a quick 8-0 run, but Worcester refused to let them charge ahead, cutting it down to a 1 point deficit (40-39).  However, Framingham retaliated back with a 14-2 run to close out the third and had all the momentum in the 4th quarter as the Lancers just couldn't overcome the deficit, losing 75-54.

Erin Gallella was Worcester State's leading scorer with 18 points on 7-14 shooting. Sophomore Julia Hamel (Hubbardston, MA) also had 13 points and a team leading 12 rebounds as Worcester State won the rebounding battle 42-34 on the afternoon.

This loss brings Worcester State's Final record to 10-15 (6-6) while Framingham moves to 17-5 (9-3).

With the regular season at a close, the focus shifts to playoffs for Worcester State where they will travel to Salem St. on Tuesday night for a 7:30pm quarterfinal battle.
