Worcester State Drops Tight Battle to Rams on Senior Day

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Volleyball team closed out their regular season schedule this afternoon with a repeat showdown with conference rival Framingham St. While the Lancers had already secured a spot in the post season, this match was pivotal and determining the final placements for the post season. A win would see the Lancers with a first-round bye, while a loss would seem them back in action on Tuesday night.  The game was also held in honor of the Lancers three graduating seniors who have been instrumental in the success of the program.

Final Score: Framingham 3, Worcester St. 2 (25-22, 23-25, 25-16, 14-25, 15-9)

 

The match was a back-and-forth battle between the Rams and Lancers with the first set seeing two lead changes before Framingham managed to grab the first set 25-22. Worcester had 13 kills in the first set to Framingham St.'s 11 but could not get ahead after a slight lead was gained by the Rams. The second set was a near opposite in outcome for the Lancers with a repeat of two lead changes, but the final lead fell in Worcester's favor. They closed out the set with a repeat of 13 kills and edged out Framingham St.'s seven to secure the 25-23 second set victory. The third and fourth sets of the day were nearly mirror opposites of both each other and the early sets with Framingham claiming the third 25-16 while Worcester State claimed the fourth with a score of 25-14, forcing the fifth and deciding set. The final set started as a one-for-one battle before several errors from the Lancers provided Framingham the edge they needed. The Rams eventually closed out the set and the match victory with a fifth set score of 15-9.

Burgio led both teams with 15 kills on the night while sophomore Megan Bardis (Rutland, MA), had a masterful time from the serving line, with 6 service aces. First year Cassidy D'Esposito (Medford, MA) was an attack specialist racking up a .500 in attack percentage in the match.


The Lancers the #4 will now prepare for a Tuesday night show with Bridgewater St #5. First serve is scheduled for 7pm.
