THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT: First years Making a Splash the Spring
This spring, freshmen across the board have been playing key roles on their respective teams. Making the jump from high school to the NCAA can be difficult. For some, there’s an adjustment period where student-athletes have to go through the growing pains, which makes it all the more impressive that these Lancers have been so impactful already. From multiple MASCAC Rookie of the Week awards to game changing plays, here are just some of the student-athletes making their mark in just their first season at the collegiate level.
Worcester State Athletics to Compete on Pink Out Day
On Saturday, April 1, the Worcester State Athletics Department will be hosting its first Rosen Cancer Awareness Pink Out Games with three home games to raise cancer awareness and funding. The baseball, softball and women’s lacrosse games will begin game action at noon and the teams will wear specially designed jerseys. All students, alumni, faculty and staff are invited to take part and show their support.
Spring Break Sports Spotlight
Worcester State sent their baseball, softball and lacrosse teams to South Carolina this past week for spring break. The results were overwhelmingly positive, with the three squads going a combined 14-9. Amongst the 23 games, these six student-athletes found a way to stand out with their performances.
Women's Lacrosse Announces 2023 Schedule
Worcester, MA- Seventh-year Head Coach Kelly Downs and the Worcester State University Lacrosse team have announced their 2023 competition schedule today. The Lancers look to build upon their success last season, their first complete season since COVID, with another deep run in the MASCAC Tournament and, ultimately this year, an appearance in the championship. The team is filled with a wealth of top-notch returners including MASCAC First-Team members graduate student Clare Conway and senior Lily Gendron. Adding to the impressive resume of the returning class is a number of exciting new additions to the squad that together, will lead the team to success.
Fisher Named MASCAC Rookie of the Week
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lacrosse team had one named to the MASCAC weekly awards after their Spring Break action in Hilton Head, SC. First year Mckayla Fisher (Peabody, MA) was named the Rookie of the Week by the MASCAC. The Lacrosse team went a perfect 2-0 on the trip, securing wins over Colby-Sawyer and Emerson College.
