Women's Lacrosse Announces 2023 Schedule

Worcester, MA- Seventh-year Head Coach Kelly Downs and the Worcester State University Lacrosse team have announced their 2023 competition schedule today. The Lancers look to build upon their success last season, their first complete season since COVID, with another deep run in the MASCAC Tournament and, ultimately this year, an appearance in the championship. The team is filled with a wealth of top-notch returners including MASCAC First-Team members graduate student Clare Conway and senior Lily Gendron. Adding to the impressive resume of the returning class is a number of exciting new additions to the squad that together, will lead the team to success.

“Excited to start the 2023 season is an understatement” says Downs. “With our strong incoming class joining our returners, we have one of the strongest teams to come through the program.  Led by nine seniors, their determination to make a name for Worcester State Lacrosse hasn't gone unnoticed.  It will be exciting to watch and especially be part of.” 

Worcester State Lacrosse begins their season with five games slated before the team heads down to Hilton Head for Spring Break. The Lancers start with two on the road in February that see them travel from West to East, opening the season on February 22nd versus Smith College and closing out their short start to the month on the 25th when they travel to take on Wellesley College. Worcester moves into March with a home-away-home schedule that has them facing off on the 1st versus Emmanuel, the 4th at Western Connecticut, and their final home game before break has them squared up on the 8th versus Bates College.

Spring Break week will see the Lancers travelling down to Hilton Head for some warmer weather and a chance to come home with back-to-back victories when they meet for first draw on March 14th and 15th versus Colby Sawyer and Emerson. After a brief stint down South, Worcester begins a four-game home stand that will see them through March and into April. The Blue and Gold are set to face Western New England, the University of Southern Maine, and Wheaton, before opening conference play on April 1st versus Downs’ alma mater Bridgewater State.

The remainder of April has the Lancers working to wrap up a top seeded MASCAC finish for the post season tournament, that will see them travelling to MCLA on the April 8th and back-to-back away games against Salem State and Framingham on April 21st and 25th. Coughlin Field will play host to Mass. Maritime on April 15th followed by Westfield State on April 19th. The conclusion of the season, on April 29th versus Fitchburg State, will be played in honor of the seniors of the Women’s Lacrosse program. The current start time is set for 12pm.
