Elke Aun '97 Selected to MASCAC Hall of Fame

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Former Worcester State College women's track & field star Elke Aun '97 has been chosen for induction into the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Hall of Fame. The announcement was made by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.

Aun is one of two inductees in the category of "Student-Athlete from a Women's Team," joining Cindy (Sturm) Menard, a former track & field athlete from Westfield State.

Aun is considered to be one of the best female athletes to ever don a Worcester State uniform. She was the first ever Lancer track & field athlete to win a national championship, earning the crown in the heptathlon in 1996.

In addition to her national championship, Aun earned numerous track & field honors over her career. She was four-time All-American, 13-time All-ECAC honoree, 18-time All-New England honoree, ECAC Champion in four events, and New England Champion in two events.

To this day, she still holds 12 track & field program records, nearly 25 years graduating. In indoor track & field, she is the record holder in the 50-yard hurdles, the 400-meter run, 500-meter run, 600-meter run, 800-meter run, 1,000-meter run, pentathlon, and triple jump. She also was a member of the then-record setting 4x200-meter, 4x400-meter, and mile relay units. Aun also holds the outdoor track & field program records in the heptathlon, 800-meter run, 400-meter hurdles, and the 4x200-meter relay.

Aun was the first Worcester State athlete to receive an NCAA $5,000 postgraduate scholarship, and was inducted into the Worcester State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003.

Each inductee will be honored at a formal MASCAC Hall of Fame induction, which will be coupled with a MASCAC athletic championship or event at the site in which the individual competed or was housed during the 2020-21 year.
