As a result of a collaborative decision made by the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education, Worcester State University Board of Trustees, and the Worcester State University Administration classes, events, and more importantly the Wellness Center will be closed beginning Saturday, March 14, 2020 until further notice in response to COVID-19. This will include the Indoor Walking Track, DeFeudis Fitness Center, Open Recreation, Group Exercise Classes, Korzec Golf Simulator, Locker Room Use, and the Lancer (Smoothie) Lounge.
 
No membership purchases/day passes are available at this time. If you are a current member, we understand that this impacts your privileges. Based on your valid dates of membership, we will arrange to extend all memberships based on the impact of this closure. If you have any questions you can email wellnesscenter@worcester.edu

 

Open Recreation

Members can use their OneCards/Membership Cards for the day use equipment at the Wellness Center front desk including; Basketballs, Soccerballs, Footballs, Volleyballs, Corn Hole, Kan-Jam, etc. There is no cost to check out any of the equipment.

If the equipment is not returned, or return in a damaged/unusable state (outside of normal wear and tear) the individual who signed out the equipment will be held responsible. The damaged/non-returned equipment fee is $25.00 payable with OneCard Common funds or credit/debit card during normal business hours. Until the equipment has been returned or the fee has been paid the Wellness Center reserves the right to suspend access to the fitness center, open recreation, equipmet check out , and intramurals. 

 

Open Recreation will primarily take place in the Multipurpose Gym located on the second floor, room 208 (or in the Competition Gymnasium when available, room 112). Activities will be scheduled based upon availability; basketball, floor hockey, volleyball, indoor soccer, pickleball, etc. When nothing is scheduled, or reserved, the activity will be basketball. 

Access to Open Recreation: 

  • Participants must be an enrolled WSU student/faculty/staff with a valid WSU OneCard or current Community/Alumni member
    • OR
  • Be sponsored by an enrolled WSU student or current member (one guest per member)
    • Guest must be 18 years or older
    • Possess a valid photo ID, which will be held at the control desk
    • Must check in with control desk upon entry, and complete the paper waiver

Failure to abide by these policies will result in the cancellation of Open Recreation deemed appropriate by the administrative staff. The Wellness Center staff has the authority to instruct members and/or guests to leave the Wellness Center if their conduct necessitates such action. The Wellness Center has a zero tolerance policy for violence or intimidation of any sort. Any user, who in the judgment of the Administrative Staff, Building Manager or Wellness Center staff member, engages in or tries to instigate violence or intimidating actions or whose conduct threatens or endangers the health and safety of any member, student or satt member, will result in immediate removal with disciplinary actions (if applicable).
