WESTFIELD, Mass. – Worcester State University women's cross country raced four student-athletes on Saturday at the James Earley Invitational at Stanley Park, and was led by junior Kasey Clark (Dudley, Mass.), who completed 5k in 19:46.67, and finished 29th in a large and competitive field.
Erica Hanlon (Shrewsbury, Mass.) finished in 56th place as an individual in a time of 20:25.12, while Caitlin Conneely (Tewksbury, Mass.) took 77th and Cassidy Lefferts (Palmer, Mass.) was 92nd out of 176 harriers.
On the men's side, junior Drew Fottler (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed sixth in a field of more than 160 racers.
Fottler ran the 8k course in a time of 25:54.96, continuing his stellar season with another top-ten finish. His efforts helped the Lancers place eighth as a team, as did his classmate Patrick Carleton (Tewksbury, Mass.), who placed 20th overall with a time of 26:35.64.
Junior Wayne Carey (Shrewsbsury, Mass.) placed 55th for Worcester State, running the course in 28:00.69. Ethan Goodreau (Spencer, Mass.) snuck into the top 100 with a 99th place showing, finishing in 29:32.93.
Daniel Clark (Worcester, Mass.), Robert Doig (Ashby, Mass.), and Samuel Magee (Salem, Mass.) also raced for the Lancers, who finished just two points behind seventh-placed Saint Michael's.
Vassar College won the men's event with 34 points, while Trinity (CT) boasted the overall medalist, Travis Martin.
The Lancers will be in Boston next Saturday when they race at the Suffolk Invitational at Franklin Park. The women set off at 1:45 PM, while the men will start at 1:15.
