Strong Senior Play Leads Comeback versus Corsairs
Worcester, MA- The stadium lights shined through the fog at Coughlin Stadium on the campus of Worcester State University tonight, as the Lancers played host to the UMass-Dartmouth Corsairs on senior night for the women’s soccer team. The game ended in a 1-1 tie, with seniors fittingly providing the lone goal and assist for the Lancers.

The game ended in a 1-1 tie, with seniors fittingly providing the lone goal and assist for the Lancers.
Seven seniors were honored before they took their home turf one final time in the regular season.

The Corsairs got off to a very quick lead, as they put one in the back of the net less than two minutes into the action. Despite the slow start, the Lancers controlled much of the first half, only allowing UMass-Dartmouth one more shot that was turned away by Lancer goalie, freshman Mallory Dupuis (Leominster, Mass.). Scoring chances came constantly to Worcester State as they compiled five shots and had seven corner kicks, but they were unable to get anything to go. After 45 minutes of play, the score stood at 1-0 in the Corsairs' favor.
The second half got underway as the fog thickened in Worcester. The Lancers finally got one past the Corsair keeper when Mignon headed one in off of a great ball from fellow senior Skowronski. It was quite the play, as Skowronski centered a ball from just a few yards in from the corner, perfectly leading the diving Mignon to one-hop it in.
Worcester State continued to berate the UMass-Dartmouth keeper with more and more scoring chances throughout the remainder of the game, but to no avail as the score stayed even at 1-1 up until the final whistle.
The Lancers head into their final regular season matchup Friday night at Mass Maritime Academy. They will head into that game at 3-3 in the MASCAC and 4-9-2 overall. UMass-Dartmouth departs Worcester with a 3-12-2 record.
