Lancers Grab Revenge with Win on the Road over Rams

Worcester, MA- In a crucial end of season revenge match the Worcester State Men's Ice Hockey team (10-11-2, 7-7-2) travel to Framingham State to grab a needed win for a first round home game in the MASCAC tournament. The Lancers met the Rams just nine days ago where Framingham grabbed the 3-2 win, and the Lancers are looking to reclaim the ground on the Rams home ice tonight.

Final

Worcester State: 3

Framingham State: 1

How it Happened:

The Lancers offense would charge with an early attack in the Rams zone. As they got the momentum early, they looked to put points on the board. Despite a large portion of time in the Framingham zone, Worcester could not score and went into the first intermission sitting at 0-0.

Worcester State's defense would be to the test right away to begin the second and would rely on senior goalie Jakub Kubik (Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic) to continue his standout goaltending, looking for the Lancers offense to get going. Down 1-0 the Lancers looked to answer before the second intermission,  and tie it up they were able to as junior forward Anders Grongstad (Royal Oak, MI) tied the game at one from graduate student Brian Clougherty (Lynn, MA) and senior Brigham Neuhold (Edmond, OK) with just under two minutes until break. The Lancers would end the second tied at 1 a piece with Kubik nabbing seven saves going into the third.

Opening the third sophomore forward Christian Howanitz (Boulder, CO) gets a shot past the net for the 2-1 Lancers lead. The Lancers offense lit a spark as they scored second in the third as Grongstad snagged his second goal of the game with a nice assist from Neuhold to take a two goal lead early in the final period of regulation. Worcester State's defense would hold Framingham's offense and Kubik would finish with 12 saves and the Lancer would hold on for the 3-1 win.
