Worcester, MA- After 16 straight wins to close out the regular season and advance through the playoffs, Worcester State (26-12, 9-5) is knocking on the door to a MASCAC Championship today. Defeating the first and second seeds to advance through the quarterfinals and semifinals, Worcester State is in the driver seat as they face off with second seeded Framingham State (27-14, 10-4), last year's MASCAC Champion, for the Championship and automatic berth to the NCAA tournament. One win for Worcester out of two chances will seal the bid for the Lancers.
Final
Worcester State: 5
Framingham State: 3
How it Happened:
Things would remain quiet at the start of the game but senior Abigail Koziol (Lunenburg, MA) would start off the action with a dropping single into centerfield but junior Amanda Adamuska (Dudley, MA) would get on base while forcing Koziol into an out to leave a single runner on. Junior Camden Heenan (Webster, MA) would put a second in with a walk while senior Jordan Geloso (Rutland, MA) would load the bases. A junior Cali Brouillard (Millbury, MA) walk would lead in the first run of the inning while senior Emma Lanpher (Charlton, MA) would snag a second for a two run advantage at the close of the second.
The bottom of the fifth would add additional distance for Worcester as Adamuska would send a ball into centerfield providing time for junior Morgan Keefe (Dracut, MA) to come across for run number three after an initial single to left to get the winning started. Brouillard would get two additional RBIs on a dinger to center that would lead in Adamuska and junior Bella Gasbarro (Leominster, MA) for a 5-0 lead.
Westfield would find their way to a single run in the sixth but Worcester's defense was on point making quick work of the remaining batters to hold their lead. Framingham State would attempt a comeback in the seventh, scoring two additional runs but Worcester was ready for the attack and claimed the day with a 5-3.
Sophomore Peyton Maloney (West Boylston, MA) went the complete distance for the Lancers allowing just three hits and an earned run and two strikeouts.
