Lancers Fall In Third Period to Keene

Lancers Fall In Third Period to Keene

Worcester, MA- The Men's Ice Hockey team (10-9-2, 7-6-2) is in the final grind of the regular season with their third game in a week as they look to grab the end of season wins to solidify their potential fourth seed finish in the MASCAC Tournament. Taking a breather from the hunt tonight, will send the Lancers north to Keene State in a chance for a rare late season out of conference battle.

Final

Worcester State: 4

Keene State: 6

How it Happened:

The first period of the game got off to a bang with both teams assessing one another, sizing each other up before they planned their assault on each other. The face off would go to Keene State, but the first points of the match would go to the Lancers, the goal snuck in by sophomore Matthew Nuzzolilo ((Worcester, MA). The game would continue to be competitive as both teams would be facing different but equally stressful situations. The Lancers would play hard but in the waning minutes of the first, Keene state would send one through. Lancers would launch an attack but it would be unsuccessful to regain the lead . The first period ended with a score of 1-1 as thebl Lancers held Keene to a stalemate.

The second period was much like the first, both teams playing a competitive brand of hockey. The Lancers would get out to an early start this period by scoring the first goal of the period, and their second total score of the day. The Lancers looked to take over the game, but Keene State would not go quiet into the night. They would tie up the game again. The period seemed like it'd be a stalemate until the Lancers scored their third goal of the game. The energy was high, the Lancers were certain they'd gone onto the lead. This laxed mindset allowed for Keene State to battle back. They played well, and tied up the score again. The period ended in a stalemate at 3-3.

The third period looked to be a back and forth affair with Worcester adding one more goal but the Owls adding three more to claim the 6-4 victory. Sophomore  Donavan Alfama (Douglas, MA) would end the night with 42 saves.
