Worcester’s Rae Uses the Force to Down Rams 

Worcester, MA - The Lancers hosted the Framingham State Rams at Coughlin Memorial Field Tuesday evening in a quarterfinal battle in the MASCAC Playoff Tournament. Worcester State started the game extremely hot on offense, scoring 4 goals in the first 25 minutes against a Framingham State defense that played a bot off step. 

 

Sophomore forward Raelyn Callahan (Pepperell, MA) scored the first goal for Worcester just four minutes into the game, assisted by first-year midfielder Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA). Condon would work to get her own shot on the net four minutes later to put Worcester's lead at 2-0. 

 

The Blue & Gold would extend their lead in the 21st minute with a pass from senior forward Haley Mignon (Tewksbury, MA) who connected with Callahan for her second goal of the game. Mignon would then find a goal of her own to put Worcester up by their fourth goal of the game 30 seconds later, assisted by senior midfielder Hailey Skowronski (Douglas, MA). The Lancers would finish the first 45 minutes with a 4-0 lead over the Rams. 

 

Framingham State's sophomore goalkeeper Jetta Oskirko (Lancaster, MA) notched six saves against the Lancers offensive onslaught in the first half. Oskirko finished with an impressive 18 saves on 24 shots on goal, while Lancer first year goalie Mallory Dupuis (Leominster, MA) recorded two saves on two shots total. 

 

To start the second half, Worcester State continued their aggressive attack, finding even more success. Mignon notched another goal, her second of the night. The highlight of the night came with Callahan, who earned a hat trick with her third goal of the night. This capped off the scoring in the game, as Worcester easily shut-out Framingham 6-0 to advance to the semifinals. 

 

The Blue & Gold take on the Westfield State Owls in the Semifinals this coming Friday, with kickoff scheduled for 7pm.
