Lancers Take Loss on the Road from Bears

Worcester, MA- After a thrilling 1-0 victory at home last Tuesday that pushed the Lancers up the conference seeding chart, the Worcester State Field Hockey team (5-8 4-2) continue their replay conference matches, as this time they travel to Bridgewater State to take on the Bears. In the last meeting with the Bears back in September, it took overtime action for Worcester to claim the 3-2 victory, but with a bit more season in their step since then, they are aiming for another statement victory.

Final

Worcester State: 1

Bridgewater State: 4

How it Happened:

While both teams battled it out in the opening 15 minutes with shots and attempts on both sides, the Bears were the first to put a score on the board after an onslaught of offensive action forced the Lancers to give up a corner. Bridgewater was offensively focused for the remainder of the quarter and channeled that energy into the second quarter grabbing an early corner to kick off the action. Five minutes into the second, Bridgewater would add a second goal and add further pressure to the Lancers to open up their attack. While Worcester would spend the rest of the quarter attempting to find a way into the cage, the halftime score would see Bridgewater up 2-0.

The third quarter would see Worcester come out full throttle in the third, finding the Bears pressure points and forcing their way into the attacking zone, ultimately culminating in a goal by first year Kate Harrison (Chelmsford, MA) off a perfect redirected pas from senior Natalya Morin (Barre, MA) to cut the lead down to just a single goal. In just a minute later the Bears would reclaim their two goal lead. The Bears would add a fourth goal in the fourth quarter to complete their full quarter scoring. Worcester would attempt to answer back in the fourth, with a just missed opportunity for senior Madison Avilla (Westport, MA) hitting the post in her attempt, but the Bears defense new its home turf and was not willing to concede the field to the Lancers today as they came away with the 4-1 victory over Worcester.

Senior Madison Ferrara (Somerset, MA) would end the match with six saves while Harrison would lead the Lancers with two attempts in the game.

What's Next:

Worcester State (5-9, 4-3) will have a week off to rest up before they take on the conference leading Fitchburg State Falcons on October 26th. The game will also serve as this year's senior day to honor the contributions of this years graduating senior class.
