Lancers Handed Tough Loss at Home

Worcester, MA - The Lancers hosted the Plymouth State Panthers in another MASCAC showdown at Coughlin Field Saturday afternoon. Two touchdowns in the 4th quarter were not enough for Worcester State as they took a tough loss to the Panthers.

FINAL SCORE: Worcester 21, Plymouth 56

Graduate Quarterback Aaron-Moses Williams (Springfield, MA) finished the game with twelve completed passes out of eighteen for a total of 183 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Quarterbacks Adam Hill (Lunenburg, MA) and Cam Ayotte (Millbury, MA) combined for four completed passes out of seven attempts for a total of 52 yards.

Sophomore Defensive Back Jamison Metcalf (Leicester, MA) recorded the team's only interception of the game in the 1st half, his first of the season. The Lancer offense was back on the field with another shot at getting themselves in the red zone, until an intercepted pass from Williams was returned for another touchdown for the Panthers.

The Lancers would see the endzone for the first time late in the 3rd quarter that started with a 6yd rush from Graduate Running Back Amir Mells (Boston, MA), resulting in a 1st and Goal for Worcester. On 2nd and Goal at the 1yd line, Worcester drew up a trick play with a toss from Williams to First-year Running Back Caeden Constant (Leominster, MA), who then completed the pass to Senior Melke Shabo (Paxton, MA) to give the Lancers their first points of the game. Sophomore Santiago Rodriguez-D'Atri's (Leominster, MA) extra point kick brings the score to 49-7 in favor of the Panthers.

Worcester would get on the board again six minutes into the 4th quarter with a 68yd pass from Williams complete to Sophomore Wide Receiver Brodie Jacques (Rehoboth, MA) for his first touchdown of the season. Rodriguez-D'Atri's kick brings the deficit to 49-14.

After Plymouth's drive resulted in a forced punt and a loss of seven yards, First-year Quarterback Cam Ayotte (Millbury, MA) entered the game as Worcester's offense took the field. A 26yd completed pass from Ayotte to Nico Holmes set up a 1st and Goal for the Lancers. Holmes then rushed it in 5yds for another Worcester State touchdown.

This would be the last time the Lancers would put points on the board for the game. Plymouth extends their lead with a 2yd rushing touchdown from Greg Walker would be the final scoring play for both sides as the clock winds down to zero.

The loss brings Worcester State to a 1-6 (1-4, MASCAC) record on the season, while Plymouth improves to 6-1 (4-1, MASCAC).

The Blue & Gold travel to Danbury, CT next weekend for conference play against Western Connecticut State. Kickoff is scheduled for 2pm.
