Men's Outdoor Track & Field Closes Season at MASCAC Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's outdoor track & field team saw its 2021 season come to a close on Saturday after competing in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Westfield State University.

Junior Drew Fottler (Chelmsford, Mass.) claimed Worcester State's lone MASCAC Individual Championship on the day, taking the top spot in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. The junior finished the race with a time of 9:46.15. Fottler also earned points in the 800 meter run for the Lancers, placing sixth with a time of 2:08.65.

First-year Jack Houlihan (Holden, Mass.) also earned points in a pair of events for Worcester State, placing second in the discus throw at 37.05 meters and sixth in the hammer throw at 30.75 meters. In other field events, senior Hoang Vo (Worcester, Mass.) finished third in the pole vault at 3.05 meters, while Kyle Haley (Mansfield, Mass.) was fourth in the triple jump at 12.35 meters. First-year DJ Gagnon (Dracut, Mass.) was fourth in the shot put at 11.58 meters, while graduate student Brandon Nichols-Hogan (Holyoke, Mass.) was sixth in the high jump at 1.65 meters.

Two Lancer hurdlers earned points for Worcester State on the day. Charles Bray (Worcester, Mass.) was third in the 110 meter hurdles at 17.38 seconds, with Sery Auguste (Uxbridge, Mass.) placing fifth in the 400 meter hurdles 1:04.69.

A pair of distance runners rounded out the scoring for the Lancers on the day. Junior Patrick Carleton (Tewksbury, Mass.) took third in the 5,000 meter run at 15:53.35, while Sam Magee (Salem, Mass.) was fifth in the 1,500 meter run at 4:29.49.

The Worcester State women's outdoor track & field team will compete in the MASCAC Championships tomorrow, also hosted by Westfield State.
