Virtual Awards Week - Most Outstanding Athletes of the Year

Day four of Worcester State’s Virtual Awards Week begins with the awards for Most Outstanding Male and Female Athlete of the Year.

The winner of the Most Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year Award was a two-year member of the Worcester State men’s basketball program. This senior captain led his team in scoring this  with 16.5 points per game, and set a program record for three-pointers made in a single season with 76 in his senior campaign, which led the MASCAC. In conference contests, this athlete led the MASCAC with a three-point percentage of 51.5 percent, and achieved 1,000 points for his collegiate career in his third game of the season. He was selected to the All-MASCAC and All-Worcester Area College Basketball Association First Teams, and led the Lancers to their first MASCAC Regular Season Championship in 20 seasons.

The 2020 Most Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year, from the men’s basketball team, is TYLER DION!

The Most Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year is a dual-sport athlete, competing on both the field hockey and women’s lacrosse teams. In an abbreviated season, this athlete was Worcester State women’s lacrosse’s leading goal scorer on the year with 11 tallies in five games. This athlete also had a historic season for the field hockey team, shattering the program record for goals in a season with 30, tied for second in the nation. She also tacked on 12 assists to record an NCAA-best 72 points on the season. This athlete was named the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Year, and scored eight goals and two assists in the LEC Tournament, leading the Lancers to the very first LEC Championship in program history. For the performance, she was named Tournament Most Valuable Player. She received All-American honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (Second Team) and SynapseSports.com (Third Team).
