
WESTFIELD, Mass. - Four Worcester State University student-athletes received weekly awards from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference on Monday evening.
The Worcester State women's outdoor track & field team swept the awards, as Abigail MacGregor (Salem, N.H.) was named MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week, Bernice Mensah (Worcester, Mass.) was named the MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week, and Odelia Konadu (Worcester, Mass.) was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Week. From the softball team, first-year Emily Bartlett (Lowell, Mass.) was named the MASCAC Pitcher of the Week.
MacGregor finished off her career in style on Sunday, winning a pair of MASCAC Individual Championships in her final collegiate meet. She won both the 100 meter dash at 12.85 seconds and the 200 meter dash at 26.26 seconds. She was also the second leg of the MASCAC Champion 4x100 meter relay team, which won the race with a time of 49.30 seconds.
Mensah also won a pair of MASCAC Individual Championships in her final collegiate meet. She won both the long jump at 5.57 meters and the triple jump at 10.92 meters. She was also the final leg of the MASCAC Champion 4x100 meter relay team, which won the race with a time of 49.30 seconds. Mensah's huge PR in the long jump is currently good for 21st in the nation.
Konadu had a trio of top five finishes Sunday at the MASCAC Championships. She was named the MASCAC Champion in the shot put with a toss of 12.09 meters, while also finishing third in the discus at 32.02 meters and fifth in the hammer throw at 33.15 meters.
In a weekend of standout pitching performances for the Lancer softball team, Bartlett shined brightest, allowing no earned runs while allowing just two hits in a complete game win over Fitchburg State. Bartlett struck out eight Falcons while only walking one batter in the victory. She also helped her own cause in the win, slugging her first collegiate home run.
