Eight Named to MASCAC Fall Sportsmanship team

WESTFIELD, Mass. – 60 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) student-athletes have been  recognized for their outstanding sportsmanship as members of the 2024 Fall Sportsmanship Team. 

The MASCAC Sportsmanship Team is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport  that best demonstrates the values of the MASCAC and its Sportsmanship Statement, regardless of their overall  performance or statistics for the season.  

“I want to commend the 60 student-athletes from across the conference who were recognized on the 2024 MASCAC  Fall Sportsmanship Team”, Commissioner Angela Baumann said. “These student-athletes have showcased  outstanding sportsmanship, which is a fundamental principle of the MASCAC. We are proud to acknowledge these  individuals for embodying these commendable traits.” 

The sports that are represented on the fall team are men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s  golf, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball. A student-athlete from each institution is selected by their coach to be  placed on the Sportsmanship Team.  

Aydan Fournier of Bridgewater State, Josh Lancaster of Fitchburg State, Logan Crow of Framingham State, Troy  Penney of Massachusetts Maritime, Jarrod Ledvina of Westfield State and Alex Lucier of Worcester State were named  to the Sportsmanship Team from men’s cross country.  

On this year’s Women’s Cross Country Sportsmanship Team are Lisa Jaeger of Bridgewater State, Trishannah Scott  of Fitchburg State, Lydia Marunowski of Framingham State, Kristie Zator of MCLA, Lorelei Lee of Massachusetts  Maritime, Shea Hamel of Westfield State and Claudia Symonick of Worcester State.  

Receiving the field hockey sportsmanship teams awards are Charlotte McElroy of Bridgewater State, Sami Yates of  Fitchburg State, Kaylee Beck of Framingham State, Laura McVeigh of Salem State, Molly Finnegan of Westfield State  and Madison Ferrara of Worcester State. 

Kicking off the Football Sportsmanship Team are Zachary Souza of Bridgewater State, Matthew Aguirre of Fitchburg  State, Luis Sulham of Framingham State, Jeremiah Hegedus of Massachusetts Maritime, Josh Crosswhite of  Plymouth State, Malakie Simao of UMass Dartmouth, Kevin McDonough of Vermont State- Castleton, DJ Barry of  WestConn, Dylan Clark of Westfield State and Nico Holmes of Worcester State.  

Men’s golf is next on the sportsmanship team list. Sean Mantua of Marymount, Ben Galko of Marywood, Mathew  Gover of MCLA, Colin Richmond of Salem State, David Girouard of Springfield College, Tom Onorato of Westfield  State and Jack Ryan of Worcester State are this year’s honorees.  

Makenna Lessard of Bridgewater State, Zoe Chrisostomides of Fitchburg State, Megan McAuliffe of Framingham  State, Kaylee Strayer of MCLA, Brady Deschamps of Massachusetts Maritime, Savannah Scordin of Salem State,  Katie Slattery of Westfield State and Hailey Santos of Worcester State are the women’s soccer Sportsmanship Team  honorees.  

In men’s soccer, Dominek Borden of Bridgewater State, Luke Speers of Fitchburg State, Lachlan Forgan of  Framingham State, Ronan Connors of MCLA, Luke Twomey of Massachusetts Maritime, Alex Ixlaj-Tello of Salem  State, Ben Dawe of Westfield State and Nick Guidi of Worcester State land on the Sportsmanship Team.  

Closing out the 2024 Fall Sportsmanship squads is volleyball where Lily Welch of Bridgewater State, Jessica Greco  of Fitchburg State, Eda Linstrom of Framingham State, Beth Harris of MCLA, Madeline Salinas of Massachusetts  Maritime, Kailey Roche of Salem State, Emma Nihill of Westfield State and Isabella Melo of Worcester State are this  year’s honorees.
