Worcester State Opens at Home with 36-7 Win over Becker

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's junior quarterback, Noah Brum (Honolulu, H.I.), threw for a total of 332 yards and three touchdowns to help the Lancers to a 36-7 victory over Becker College in a Friday night game under the lights at Coughlin Field.

1^st QUARTER
Brum completed two passes to Jacob Maher (Marshfield, Mass.) and one pass to Hunter Paupaw (Hudson, Mass.) for a combined 67-yards in the Lancers' the first drive. On his fourth pass of the day, Brum and Maher connected on a 7-yard pass for the first tally of the evening. The Lancers took the 7-0 mark on a good kick from Noah Hwang (Brooklyn, N.Y.).

Becker's second drive of the evening looked promising as quarterback Nas Sinkfield-Shelton (New Rochelle, N.Y.) made a lateral pass to Kenneth McMurphy (Gilbert, Ariz.) who threw 45 yards to Ryan Fernanzdez (Miami, Fla.) for a first and goal attempt. The Hawks rushed down to the second yard line. However, Worcester State's Eric Nunez (Milford, Mass.) spoiled the scoring attempt on a fourth and goal when he sacked Sinkfield-Shelton for a loss of 2-yards.

Though, on their next drive, the Hawks knotted the score at 7-7 as Emeka Carranza (White Plains, N.Y.) rushed the ball to the Worcester 4-yard line and received a pass from Sinkfield-Shelton to tie the game at 7-all following a good Shane Padeni (Leicester, Mass.) point after attempt.

2^nd QUARTER

Worcester State possessed the ball at the beginning of the second quarter in the red zone and promptly scored a touchdown on a 2-yard run from Dexter Andrews (Boston, Mass.) just two minutes into the stanza. They added to the score twice more in the second on field goals from Hwang (43-yard and 36-yard), to advance the score at 19-7 going into the half.  

3^rd QUARTER

The Blue and Gold came out of the locker room and scored right off the bat. Brum put the Lancers in good position following a 32-yard pass to Dan Orlando (Westborough, Mass.). He then completed three more pitches to put the Lancers' at the Becker 15-yard line. He found Maher for a 10-yard pass, and then found an open Justin Lewis (Lynn, Mass.) in the end zone for a touchdown. With an extra point from Hwang, the Lancers led by a score of 26-7 going into the final quarter.

4th QUARTER

Just 20 seconds into the fourth, Worcester State added three more points to the board on a 30-yard field goal from Hwang. They recorded their last and final tally of the game on a 59-yard pass to Kharif Pryor (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with eight minutes remaining in the game.  

DOWN FOR THE COUNT

• For Worcester State, Brum completed 22-of-34 passes (.647) for a total of 332 yards and three touchdowns. For Becker, Sinkfield-Shelton completed 11-of-24 (.458­) for a total of 60 yards and one touchdown.
• On the receiving end, Orlando led the Blue and Gold with 117 receiving yards on five receptions. Pryor picked up 76 receiving yards, while Paupaw and Maher collected 49 and 48 yards, respectively.
• For Becker, Fernandez marked a team-high 55 receiving yards on two catches. The Hawks' Carranza picked up a team-high 44 rushing yards on 17 attempts.  
• Papuaw led the Lancers in the rushing game, logging 34 yards on seven attempts. Andrews marked a team-high 14 rushes for 32 yards and a touchdown.
• Hwang ramped up 12 points for Worcester State going 3-for-3 on field goals, and 3-for-3 on extra point attempts.
• Worcester State's Nunez kicked a total of 335 yards on seven kickoffs.
• Defensively for Worcester State, Theo Bryant (Lowell, Mass.) led with 13 total tackles (five solo, eight assisted) and one breakup. Nunez registered eight tackles and two sacks for a total loss of nine yards. Michael Bryne (Tolland, Conn.) chalked up seven tackles and 0.5 sacks along with a game-high seven quarterback hurries. Chris Cesar (Lowell, Mass.) earned a team-high three breakups.
• For the Hawks, Shaheim Wilson (Naples, Fla.) led the defense with 13 tackles (five solo, eight assisted) with 1.5 sacks, two breakups and an interception. Michael Bianco (Manorville, N.Y.) and Padeni totaled 11 and 10 tackles respectively.
• Each team had one interception. Donnel Lewis (Bridgeport, Conn.) had a 20-yard interception return, while Becker's Wilson also picked one for a return of three yards.
• Worcester State went 6-for-6 in red zone scoring chances.
• Worcester State held a 404-201 margin in total yards (332-105 passing).

Worcester State returns to Coughlin Field next Saturday (Sep. 16) as they begin conference play and host Fitchburg State in a 12 noon game.
