Box Score

Dudley, MA --- The Worcester State College field hockey team defeated Nichols College, 3-1, Wednesday evening in non-conference action at Vendetti Field. Freshman midfielder Tiffany Boccia (Leominster, MA) netted the game-winner for the Lancers, who improve to 9-5 overall. The Bison slip to 8-6 and stand at 4-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference standings with four league games remaining on the season.

Tiffany Boccia (Leominster, MA) hit her first career goal when senior Kate Fisher's (Greenfield, MA) shot deflected off of the goalies pads right back to Boccia. Seven minutes later, sophomore Erin Moore's (Brimfield, MA) shot careened off a Nichols defender and over Bison goalkeeper MaryKate Bednarz (Springfield, MA) for a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Senior Kim Cosenza (Fitchburg, MA) handled a corner feed from classmate Ginelle Blais (Marlboro, MA) and took a step inside the arc before placing her shot past Bednarz for a 3-0 lead at 54:35.

Nichols sophomore Eileen Clinton (Londonderry, NH) put the Bison on the board with just over 10 minutes to play with her team leading seventh goal of the season when she got her own rebound and knocked it past Lancers netminder Erin MacDonald (Dedham, MA). The tally marked the sixth in the last four games for the forward, and keeps alive a five-game point streak.

MacDonald stopped 11 shots in the win, while Bednarz made two saves.

Nichols maintained a 14-5 in shots on net and a 15-6 hold in overall attempts.

The Bison are back in action at Endicott in a pivotal TCCC matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Lancers travel to Keene State College for a 1:30 p.m. Little East Conference game Saturday.
