Wise, Kralian Pace Women’s Outdoor Track At MIT Spring Invitational

Cambridge, MA --- Sophomore Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) timed 12.56 in the 100 meters while junior Mara Kralian (N. Grafton, MA) had a leap of 5.36 meters in the long jump to help lead the Worcester State women's track and field team on Saturday at the MIT Spring Invitational. Both qualified for the All-Open New England's in the process.

Wise and Kralian also teamed with freshman Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) and junior Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) for the top 4x100 meter relay finish as the four combined to clock a time of 49.82.

Wise impressed as her time was six hundreth's of a second off tying Kralian's mark in the 100 as she also added 10th in the long jump (4.65m). Rafferty was fourth in the 100 (12.81) and 12th in the long jump (4.56m) as Deininger sprinted to seventh in the 100 (12.96) and 16th in the 100 meter hurdles (18.71).

In the field, senior Christina Bisbee (N. Attleboro, MA) impressed with second in the hammer (35.53) while freshman Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) tossed fourth in the shot put (10.98m) and ninth in the discus (26.88m).

Sophomore Kristen Brunelle (Dracut, MA) distinguished herself with fifth in the shot put and 11th in the discus (26.00m) in the while freshman Marlene Christenson (Danvers, MA) was sixth in the hammer (32.41m) and 10th in the discus (26.66m).

After first-year Amanda Holden (Lunenburg, MA) posted third in the triple jump (10.37m) and seventh in the 100 meter hurdles (16.66), she came in 12th in the high jump (1.40m).

Freshman Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) and sophomore Kayle McElroy (Rutland, MA) each came in seventh (1:11.98) and eighth (1:14.81), respectively, in the 400 meter hurdles as McElroy also added sixth in the javelin (27.77m), 11th in the shot put (9.40m) and 14th in the 100 meter hurdles (18.23).

First-year Alison Hickey (Easton, MA) notched eighth in the 400 (1:04.59) while classmate Heidi Bezemes-Turner (Beverly, MA) tallied ninth in the 100 (13.29).

Sophomore Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) paced herself to eighth in the 10,000 (42:25.42) while rookie Kelsey Cartwright (Bridgewater, MA) showed off her versatility in the mid-distance events with 17th in the 1,500 (5:23.11) and 19th in the 800 (2:41.44).

Freshmen teammates Jenna Pickard (Peabody, MA) and Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) along with sophomore Kristina Richard (Peabody, MA) each finished 18th (20:36.97), 19th (20:51.19), and 20th (21:16.97) in the 5,000 meters, respectively.

Taylor and first-year Kristen Wilson (Tewksbury, MA) tied for ninth in the high jump (1.40m) while teammate Nicole Hanson (N. Dighton, MA) hurled 10th in the javelin (25.95m).

Sophomore Rose Matheiu (Somerville, MA) rounded out the field with 11th in the triple jump (9.16m) and 14th in the long jump (4.41m).

Next week the Lancers will compete again at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College.
