Lancers Win Third Straight with Sweep of Bucs

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – Worcester State women's volleyball has now won three in a row, including a pair of conference matches, as the Lancers earned a 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-14) win over Mass. Maritime in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Saturday evening. 

The Lancers improve to 8-12 overall and remain perfect in the conference (5-0), while Maritime falls to 1-17 (0-5). 

Maeve Cadogan (Wilmington, Mass.), Natalie Gillis (Ashland, Mass.), and Gabby Alberghini (Northborough, Mass.) led the match with six kills each. Leelle Tyler (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Angela Colonis (Waterford, Conn.) had five each. 

Colonis led the match in assists with 13. Sarah Ward (Townsend, Mass.) added 10 assists. 

Ward led the match in service aces with four. Denise Hoxha (Worcester, Mass.) added three. 

Camryn Burgio (Quincy, Mass.) led the match defensively with 14 digs. Colonis added 10. Cadogan, Alberghini, and Klea Xhemollari (Worcester, Mass.) each had a block for the Lancers. 

Tegan Murray (Newbury, MA) and Alex Smith (Shippensburg, PA) led the Bucs with two kills each.  

Kolby Barbieri (Haverhill, MA) and Audrey Manning (Hanover, MA) each had two assists. 

Murray and Manning recorded the only service aces for Maritime. 

Defensively, Ameena Freeman (Columbus, OH) led the Bucs team with 11 digs. Manning, Isabelle Miazga (Rocky Hill, CT) and Alaina Liddell (Weymouth, MA) each had six digs. Smith and Marlo Sim (Groton, CT) tallied five apiece.

Maritime will host Fitchburg State in a midweek conference match on Wednesday, October 20th at 7pm at the Clean Harbors Athletics Center. At the same time, the Lancers will be hosting Salem State in Worcester.
