Bartlett, Conway Snag MASCAC Player of the Week Awards

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Worcester State University had a pair of players recognized on Monday as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) announced their weekly awards.

Sophomore pitcher Emily Bartlett (Lowell, Mass.) was named MASCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week, and senior attack Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.) earned MASCAC Player of the Week honors.

Conway scored 11 goals and added an assist for 12 points with five ground balls and four caused turnovers in a 1-1 week for the Lancers. She registered the third highest single-game goal total in school history with nine goals in a 14-10 win over Keene State, where she finished with 15 shots, 12 of them on goal (80%), and scored seven times in the first half as the Lancers took a 10-4 lead into halftime. Conway added two ground balls and two caused turnovers in the win. She also had a pair of goals, three ground balls and two caused turnovers earlier in the week against Western New England.

Bartlett could have been considered for both Player and Pitcher of the Week, as she excelled both at the plate and in the circle. As a pitcher, she appeared in both games this week for the Lancers, throwing eight innings and allowing just one earned run for a sparkling 0.88 ERA. She struck out 10 batters, including eight in a complete game win over Lasell.

At the plate, Bartlett went 3-5 (.600) with a double, a triple, a run scored and a run batted in. In the opening game victory against the Lasers, she was 2-2 with two extra base hits. For the week she slugged 1.200.

The Lancers (5-7) softball team will host WPI on Wednesday at 4:00 PM in a doubleheader against their cross-town rivals.

Women’s lacrosse (4-4) opens their MASCAC schedule at home next Saturday, April 2nd at 12:00 pm when they host MCLA.
