Jason Akana, '96 was an outstanding baseball player for the Lancers for three years and his leadership abilities were recognized as he was named a team captain during his senior year.
In 1996, he won the NCAA Division III batting title with a .514 batting average and finished his career with a 398 batting average, seventh best all-time in Lancer history. While at Worcester State he established numerous new records in baseball including a 22 game hitting streak, 23 stolen bases in a season and 59 during his career. At that time he held the record for most assists in a season with 92, most assists in a career with 221, most career singles, 101, most singles in a season, 41, most at bats in a season, 122, and most career doubles, 36. His baseball jersey number has been retired.
In 1996, he was selected third team All New England and was named to the Massachusetts State College All Conference 1st team. He was named the MASCAC Player of the Week twice. Upon graduation, he played professional baseball in the Independent League.
He was an honor roll student at Worcester State and was named the College's Outstanding Senior Male Athlete of the Year in 1996. He is employed as a sales representative at Franklin Environmental Services, Inc.
