Worcester State Athletics Welcomes Dean Bowen to Staff as Fitness Center Manager

WORCESTER, Mass. – On Tuesday (Jun. 7) the Worcester State Department of Athletics announced their newest addition to their staff, Dean Bowen, as the Wellness Center Fitness Center Manager.

“We are excited to welcome Dean Bowen to our Athletic Department,” said Director of Athletics, Michael Mudd.  “He brings to our university a wealth of knowledge and experience and will provide an outstanding recreational experience to our campus community.”

Bowen joins the staff with 11 years’ experience in the fitness & wellness industry, as he most recently was the Assistant Director of Fitness & Wellness Programs at Stony Brook University. During his time at Stony Brook, Bowen administered and developed a Group Fitness Program with over 73 fitness classes each week and managed the recreation center gym. Bowen, a certified fitness instructor, provided nationally accredited professional fitness certifications and workshops at Stony Brook University for the campus and local community.

“Effective management of the Fitness Center, Weight Room and Group Exercise Programs will be at the forefront of the Wellness Center’s functions to our campus community,” stated Mudd.  “Dean is the right person to develop these programs from the ground up.”

In his time at Stony Brook, Bowen also served as a liaison between the recreation center and campus community as a member of the Executive Committee and Centers of Excellence under Healthier U, a campus-wide Presidential Wellness initiative for the campus community. Bowen will work on the same at Worcester State, promoting health & wellness throughout the campus community.

"I look forward to the opportunity to aid in the changing of the recreational culture at Worcester State University with the opening of the Wellness Center this fall 2016,” commented Bowen.  “I am arriving at the Woo with great passion, enthusiasm and a drive to spread Wellness to the students, and faculty, and staff.”
