LeMay, McCarthy Get MASCAC Player of the Week Nods

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Junior Marcus McCarthy (East Providence, R.I.) and senior Gigi LeMay (Grafton, Mass.) were selected as the Players of the Week for men’s and women’s basketball, respectively, announced on Monday afternoon by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC).

It's the first MASCAC weekly awards for either basketball program this season.

LeMay netted 14 points, eight rebounds, three steals and an assist while shooting 66.7 percent from the field in the Lancers’ 68-63 overtime win over Keene State College. The senior forward is averaging 14.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, both tops on the team. She also leads the Lancers with a 47.3 shooting percentage from the floor.

McCarthy averaged 17 points, five rebounds, four assists, 3.5 steals and a block in a 1-1 week for the Lancers. McCarthy came off the bench to score a team-high 20 points in a 77-75 setback at Dean College. That earned him a spot in the starting lineup against Rhode Island College, and he made the most of it, scoring 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting and 4-of-6 from three-point range with five rebounds, five assists, three steals and a block in the 83-62 win over the previously undefeated Anchormen.

The men's basketball team (4-4) is on the road tomorrow night with a 7:00 PM game at Wesleyan. Women's hoops (3-4) plays at Wellesley with a simultaneous 7:00 PM tip.
