Baseball Shuts Out Hamilton, 6-0, Behind McBride

Punta Gorda, FL – The Worcester State baseball team got back to winning ways Friday afternoon as they defeated the Hamilton College Continentals, 6-0, at Charlotte High School. Starter Craig McBride (Attleboro, MA) got his first win of the year throwing 8 shutout innings scattering just 6 hits and striking out 9 along the way.

Worcester State got on the board first in the bottom of the 4th inning. Senior Chris Logan (Spencer, MA) laced a double down the left field line and right-fielder Chris Gusha (Rutland, MA) followed with a double into the left center field gap to plate Logan with the first run of the game. With two out and Gusha on third, sophomore Ryan LaPrade (Leominster, MA) hit a single through the left side to score Gusha and give the Lancers a, 2-0, lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, Logan and Gusha got things stated again hitting back to back singles to lead off the inning. After Nick Caparell (N. Attleboro, MA) reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases, LaPrade got his second RBI of the game with a single to left scoring Logan to give the Lancers a, 3-0, lead. A walk to Ryan Raleigh (Cranston, MA) scored the fourth Worcester State run. A ground out to third made the score, 5-0, plating Caparell.

In the bottom of the 7th frame, Worcester State added a single run when senior Nate Nelson (Worcester, MA) skied a shot to left field that the left fielder lost in the sun to score Logan who walked earlier in the inning.

Logan was 3-for-3 on the day with a walk and 3 runs scored. LaPrade was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Gusha finished the day 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.

Hamilton leadoff hitter Gideon Clark and catcher Tom Monfiletto each had 2 hits on the day for the Continentals.
