McDonald Earns D3baseball.com All-American Nod

Worcester, MA --- Senior infielder Corey McDonald (Hudson, MA) has been named a D3baseball.com Honorable Mention All-American. McDonald, one of eight players from New England chosen to the team, wraps up his two-year career as the fourth Worcester State baseball player earn All American honors.

McDonald, who transferred to WSU in 2009 from CCRI, batted .473 with five home runs, 26 RBIs and 42 runs scored. McDonald also had an on-base percentage of .550, a slugging percentage of .698 to go along with 90 total bases and 21 walks.

McDonald was selected as the MASCAC Player of the Year in a unanimous vote by head coaches, the inaugural Worcester Area Co-Player of the Year and last week he earned the distinction of being on the All-New England as a third-team representative.

On Thursday, June 2nd, McDonald will represent Worcester State and the MASCAC as one of 16 Division III players at the NEIBA Senior All-Star Game, which will be held at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, MA at 7 PM.

Though the end of the NCAA regional round of competition, McDonald is ranked second nationally in batting, seventh in on-base percentage and 39th in slugging. The only player ahead of McDonald in batting is Tim Wilson of Linfield who is hitting .490 this season.

McDonald has the second-highest career batting average in the record book with an eye-popping clip of .440 while he also has 118 base-knocks, 83 runs, 13 homers and 68 RBIs.

The other Worcester State players who have been selected as All-Americans include Eric Swedberg, Tim Leonard and Matt Hart. Hart was the last player to be honored by d3baseball.com in 2009 and Swedberg was named to d3baseball's All-Decade team earlier this season.

Other players from New England on the squad included Ryan Walsh (Newton, MA) of UMass Boston (1st Team - 2B), Mike Eaton (Sabbattus, ME) of Southern Maine (2nd Team - 1B), Dan Haugh (Andover, MA) of Wheaton (2nd Team - 3B), Ed Bernstien (Foxboro, MA) of Southern Maine (2nd Team - RP), Jim Shult (Wappingers Falls, NY) of Eastern Connecticut (3rd - UTL), Ryan Dudzinski (Bristol, CT) of Western New England (Hon Mention - DH) and John Apostolo (Queens, NY) of Mitchell (Hon Men - UTL).
