Fisher Blanks Baseball, 2-0, On Senior Day

Worcester, MA --- Fisher senior Christopher O'Hare (Lynnfield, MA) and junior John Tangherlini (Lincoln, RI) combined on a one-hitter to shutout Worcester State, 2-0, in non-conference baseball action this evening at the Rockwood Park.

With the win the Falcons up their record to 33-15 while the Lancers drop to 16-19 with the setback.

The visitors opened the game with the 1-0 advantage. Junior Eridani Dume (Boston, MA) led off the game with an infield single before he swiped second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a classmate Victor LeBron's (Union City, NJ)  RBI single through the left side.

Fisher nearly doubled their margin in the top of the second with a runner on third and on one out, but sophomore Jared Kuzio (Franklin, MA) retired the side in order to end the threat.

Kuzio matched the effort of the Falcons hurlers on the mound by setting down nine straight and 10 of his next 13 batters, but ran into trouble in the top of the seventh.

Fisher manufactured a two-out score on a single up the middle by senior Jose Paulino (Lawrence, MA) to score junior Davidson Peguero (Boston, MA). Peguero jacked a bloop single to left before moving to second on a sacrifice and third on a ground-out.

Senior Joe Piscitelli (Oxford, MA) kept his team within striking distance with two scoreless frames for the Lancers which included a pair of punch-outs in the ninth.

O'Hare retired his first seven batters, but gave up an infield base-knock to sophomore Cody Osburn (Sacramento, CA) in the bottom of the third.

In the bottom of the fifth, sophomore Rob MacDonald (Waltham, MA) drew a lead-off walk, but O'Hare helped spin a rare 5-6-4 double play on a bunt to wipe away the scoring opportunity for the Blue and Gold.

Tangherlini only allowed two Lancer base-runners in the final four innings of play as he recorded his first save of the campaign. Tangherlini fanned six batters and issued one free pass for the Falcons.

O'Hare (9-0), who entered the contest yielding an amazing one run in 54 innings on the campaign, finished with six strikeouts.

Kuzio (1-4) allowed two earned runs to go with six hits, three punch-outs and one walk.

Piscitelli along with senior classmates Nick Bonofiglio (Worcester, MA/Holy Name), Nick Gezotis (Westfield, MA), Cruz Rosado (Clinton, MA), Kurt Sabacinski (Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian) and Alex Teal (Malden, MA) were recognized in a brief pre-game ceremony for playing in one of their final home games on "Senior Day."

The Lancers will face off against Westfield State in a key MASCAC twin bill on Saturday at 12 PM to determine home-field advantage in next week's conference tournament. The Falcons come back to the Lyons Baseball Diamond on Sunday for a 1 o'clock rematch with the Blue and Gold.
