Salem, MA --- Westfield State sophomore Jeremy Tanguay (Huntington, MA) doubled in junior Kyle Colesani (Mount Kisco, NY) for the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth as the third-seeded Owls defeated #4 Worcester State, 2-1, in the first elimination game of the MASCAC Baseball Tournament Semifinals this morning at Salem State.

After leaving the go-ahead run on base in each of the previous four frames, the Blue and Gold went up 1-0 in the top of the sixth when sophomore David Ruggiero (Peabody, MA) drove in classmate Zach George (Attleboro, MA), who led off the frame with a double.

Westfield State senior Andrew Medeiros (Acushnet, MA) then rapped out a single to right to bring home Adams, but George gunned down the trail runner for the second out before sophomore Cody Osburn (Sacramento, CA) induced a perfect double-play ball to end the threat with runners on the corners.

After senior Curt Everett (Lexington, MA) fanned the side in the top of the ninth, the Owls used the momentum to score the walk-off win in the bottom of the frame. Colesani reached on a lead-off single and then he came around to score on Colesani's two-bagger with two outs.

Everett (2-0) picked up the win in relief for the Owls as he permitted just one hit, one walk and struck out four batters in his three innings of work.

Osburn (3-1) was outstanding for the Lancers, but was tagged with the setback. Osburn yielded two runs (one earned) while he scattered nine hits, struck out eight and issued one free pass.

Adams, Medeiros and senior Kevin Greene (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) all chipped in with two hits for the Owls as George was the lone multi-hitter for the Lancers with a 2-for-3 at the plate. Westfield State led in the hitting column, 9-7.
