Worcester, MA --- Worcester State College junior defensive end
Steve Melville has been tabbed as a third-team
selection to d3football.com’s All-East
region team. The team’s, selected in balloting by East Region
sports information directors and d3football.com staff, were chosen
from 191 nominations by Division III member schools. A total of 75
players were chosen.
Melville joins eleven other New England Football Conference (NEFC)
players honored on this year’s all-region team and locally he
is also honored along with WPI defensive back Andrew
Sides (Acton, MA), a first-team member.
Melville is the first Lancer to be distinguished on the team since
d3football.com started the squad in 2005. He also received a
first-team All-NEFC Bogan Division honor last month as well as
recieving a nod to the All-Worcester Area Football squad's as a
first-team.
Melville, who hails from Merrimac, MA, led the Lancers
defensively with 47 tackles (32 solo) and a staggering 18.5 tackles
for a loss with 7.5 sacks, which were both second in the NEFC.
Melville's marks of total tackles for a loss and per game were both
tied for 14th and 12th, respectively in the NCAA Division III.
MIT running back DeRon Brown (Galax, VA) and
Plymouth State teammates Joe Duval (Dover, NH-OG)
and defensive end Jim Sestitio (Foxboro, MA)
headlined the first-team for the NEFC while tailback Jeff
Mack (Milford, NH) and Westfield State wide receiver
David Benoit (Ludlow, MA) and Owl linebacker
Jason Fielding (Methuen, MA) earned accolades on
the second-team.
Melville was joined on the third team by Bridgewater State
offensive linemen Jeff Smith (Danvers, MA) and
Justin Lima (Mashpee, MA) along with Endicott
defensive tackle Kevin Egan (West Hartford, CT)
and Curry punter Matt Alksninis (Mansfield, MA).
WSC ended their season with a 2-8 record under 26th year head coach Brien Cullen.
