Boston, MA --- Worcester State senior linebacker Cameron Jones has been selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week for helping the Lancers defeat Bogan Division rival Westfield State in a 42-40 triple-overtime thriller. Jones was also named the NEFC Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday.
Jones, a product of Stow, MA who went to Nashoba regional, recorded a team-best 11 tackles (nine solo), two tackles for a loss and a pass breakup for the Blue in Gold in the triumph against the Owls.
Jones has been a centerpiece of the Lancer defense as he is third in the NEFC in solo tackling (22), tied for 11th overall (32) as he also is 10th in the conference standings tackles for a loss with five for 11 yards.
Since taking over the starting role at outside linebacker at the beginning of last season, Jones has become a dual threat in the rushing attack and in pass coverage. In 23 career games, Jones has 106 tackles (65 solo), 24.5 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks, 11 pass breakups, five interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
All-NEFC standout linebacker Tyler Russell and junior corner Graham Asum (Marlboro, MA) each earned D3football.com Team of the Week nods last season.
Worcester State (4-0, 1-0 NEFC Bogan) continues conference play this Saturday as they host unbeaten Maine Maritime (3-0, 1-0 NEFC Bogan) for a 12 PM kick-off.
The Lancers have also been ranked sixth in the latest Division III New England Football Poll.
