Worcester State Football Announces 2023 Schedule

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Football program, headed up by fourth-year Head Coach Adam Peloquin, officially announce their 2023 Football schedule. The Lancers aim to improve upon their 1-9 record from last season with the help of a seasoned team of returners. Offensively the Lancers will be guided by the quick feet of junior Nico Holmes and strong arm of senior Mike Loveless, who is primed to take over the starting quarterback job this season. Their protection will be led by junior Austin Michelson who will be anchoring the offensive line. On defense, Worcester will be helmed by senior third year captain John McMasters, who is set to continue as a middle linebacker come the fall. Along with McMasters, junior Dom Annese and senior Curt Marshall will look to make their mark on the defensive unit after a strong offseason and secondary work highlighted the high caliber of their defensive ability.

The 2023 schedule will see a duplicate slate of opponents from last season with two non-conference opponents and a complete schedule of MASCAC opponents. There is an even split of five games to be hosted at John Coughlin Memorial Field, and the additional five games that will see the Lancers squad hitting the road.

The team kicks-off their season on the road for a Friday night battle with cross-town foes, WPI, on September 1st. The Lancers will then return home for their, September 9th, 1pm, home opener, when they welcome Union College back to Coughlin Field.

The Lancers remaining scheduled eight games sees them locked in with MASCAC opponents. Opening home conference play on September 16th with the Fitchburg State Falcons traveling down 190 for a noon showdown before the Lancers are again back on the road journeying out to 2022 MASCAC Champion, UMass-Dartmouth.

Following a mid-season bi-week, the Lancers host their own Friday night lights, taking on Bridgewater State at 7pm to kick off the October slate of games. Keeping the excitement flowing, the Worcester State Football team squares off with Mass Maritime in a Thursday night showdown during the seventh week of the season. The Lancers remain on the road the following week as they travel north to Plymouth State for a Saturday afternoon matchup.

The October 28th home return will also mark the Worcester State University homecoming weekend where the team will take on Western Connecticut at 3pm.

November will see Worcester State start on the road as they journey to Westfield State on September 4th before closing out their regular season with their final home game, currently slated to honor the seniors of the program. The Lancers will take on Framingham State at 12pm following the ceremony.

“We are excited for the 2023 season to get underway” says head coach Adam Peloquin. “Our non-conference opponents will help us prepare for a competitive league schedule, our players are hungry for the challenges 2023 will bring, and I believe the team is poised to take a step forward this season.”
