Lancers Fall to Owls

Worcester, MA- The Lancers Football team hit the road for the last time in the 2023 season as they traveled to Westfield for a battle of the WSU. The Lancers are on a short week after a Monday loss to West Conn, as they look to get a much needed MASCAC win.

After recovering a fumble on the opening kickoff, the Owls scored a quick touchdown on the short field to take a 7-0 lead. The Owls extended their lead to 14-0 after forcing a Worcester State 3 and out. After a big interception by sophomore Nate Winco (Sturbridge, MA) the lancers had the momentum and drove all the way to the end zone as senior Mike Loveless (Nashua,NH) punched it in from a yard out to make it 14-6. Westfield knocked in a field goal in the waning seconds to make it 17-6 at the half.



Worcester State started the 2nd half on defense as Winco recorded his second interception of the game. The third quarter was a defensive affair as the team's alternated punts for the duration of the quarter. Westfield scored in the opening minutes of the 4th to extend their lead to three scores, 24-6. The Lancers responded as senior Deion Osei-Sarpong (Holden, MA) hauled in a touchdown reception to make it 24-12. Westfield scored in the final minute to come to the 30-12 final. 



The Lancers,  now sit at (1-8,1-6) return to the gridiron next Saturday afternoon as they host Framingham State in the season finale and senior day, with a noon kickoff. Westfield now sits at (2-7, 2-2) on the season.
