Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Football team has been tapped to finish 8th in the MASCAC Preseason Coaches poll as voted on by the coaches. The Lancers are looking to add to their win total from last year behind a solid group of returners and first year talent with the program. Mike Loveless was a dual threat QB for the Lancers in 2022 with five touchdowns on the ground and two in the air along with 551 yards of total offense.
The MASCAC Regular Season Champions, UMass-Dartmouth grabbed the top spot with seven first plate votes and a total of 63 points. Following behind was Bridgewater State with 53 points. Battling it out for the third and fourth spot were WestConn and Framingham State. Each received a first-place vote, but WestConn grabbed the third spot with 47 points while Framingham State came in fourth with 46 points. Plymouth State grabbed the fifth spot with 41 points. The final four spots found Mass Maritime with 29, Westfield State at 19 with Worcester State on their heels, which mirrors the tight contests of last season with 16 points. Wrapping up the final spot was Fitchburg State at 10 points.
The Lancers look to bring themselves from underdog to champions this season with the first contest set for Friday, September 1st at WPI. Kickoff is slated for 7pm while the Lancers home opener is a 1pm match with Union College at 1pm.
